I just handed you this to read
And now I’m on my phone and in
The other hand there’s coffee.
Don’t look up,
Just keep reading.
You can tell I’m uncomfortable
With you reading my writing in front of me.
I’m not looking at you
So i won’t see the micro emotions,
Reactions i might not want to see.
Naturally,
Pretend I’m not here,
That’s a hard thing to do.
Is there a tension?
Is there a worry?
A not wanting to offend me?
“This isn’t that good,”
You might think.
My phone’s on the table
And my head’s down lookin at it.
Don’t look at me.
Focus on what it feels like,
That I’m here with you.
There’s no wrong answer.
Close your eyes and
Wait for a bit.
I might look at you while
You do this, but don’t worry about it.
Okay do it.
What did that feel like?
Did you feel pressure on your eyelids
Where I might have been looking?
Did you picture me?
What did you feel in your body?
The answers are you,
But they are also me.
So focus on these answers,
Bottle them.
Cus even though I’m here now,
I want you to have something to refer to
When I might not be.
