Sinning is Pretty Easy

What does it mean to take Your name
In vain?

Is it saying “Oh my God”
Out of exasperation instead of praise?

Is it saying “Goddamnit”
When a tire blows out in the rain?

Is that even taking Your name?
Is your essence tied to sound?

Can we inadvertently call upon you
In order to throw you around?

God, you’re not the only one
With the name god.

You’re the only one that’s real,
But they are still called god.

That can’t be your true name,
Just the one we call you when we want to.

You say I AM.
You say EXISTENCE.

When I take reality in vain,
Is that your name?

When I dismiss the breeze
Am I missing your essence?

When I ignore what’s happening to me,
Am I forgetting Who’s made me free?

Is living life without knowing you
Taking who you are without value?

Is life ignorant of truth
Taking EXISTENCE as empty?

That’s your name,
Is it in vain?

That’s a lot easier to do
And different than making a noise.

I started this intending to make it
Harder to break that commandment,

But I’ve found that it’s one more brittle
Than breathing.

And a moment without faith in you
Is using existence to praise a vapor,

Which will pass before the sun hits.

I need to reevaluate what taking your name is.
